POSITION OPENING: Assistant Treasurer/Collector of Taxes (Grade 7)
Job Description:
The Town of Boxford seeks qualified applicants for the full time position of Assistant Treasurer/Collector of Taxes. Reports to Treasurer/Collector of Taxes and assists in the billing and collecting of taxes, processing of adjustments, reconciliation of accounts, investment of municipal funds, debt service management and other assigned projects. Massachusetts law empowers the Assistant Treasurer/Collector of Taxes to perform all the duties of the Treasurer/ Collector of Taxes in his/her absence with the exception of tax takings.
Qualifications:
MUST be a citizen of the U.S. and a Massachusetts resident. Priority will be given to candidates with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other related field of study and demonstrated experience in the collection of and accounting for a large number of accounts receivable; substantial knowledge of professional municipal accounting practices; and some knowledge of the principles and underlying laws and regulations pertaining to Town government. A successful candidate must qualify for fidelity bonding as required by law and possess the ability to establish good working relationships with others, including the public, follow complex directions and perform work independently, with accuracy and attention to detail. The individual hired for this position should be
proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications and able to attain competency in the use of specialized municipal financial software; exhibit strong verbal and demonstrated written skills; and must possess the initiative, integrity, sense of humor and the ability to multi-task in a busy office environment.
Compensation:
The job is a 35 hour per week benefit eligible position under the collective bargaining agreement between the Town of Boxford and AFSCME Local 939, Boxford Support Staff. Hours are 7:55 A.M. until 4:40 P.M., Monday through Thursday. Additional hours may also be required when the workload increases during certain periods. Compensation rate is $21.75/hr. Anticipated start date is mid-November, 2009.
